Dr Lloyd Baiyegunhi holds a doctor of philosophy (PhD) degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Fort Hare, Alice, South Africa. He had a Bachelor of Agriculture (B.Agric) degree option in Agricultural Economics & Rural Sociology and an MSc degree in Agricultural Economics from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, Nigeria.

Before joining the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2009, Dr. Baiyegunhi had lectured undergraduate students at the University of Fort Hare, Alice, South Africa between 2006-2008. Upon his appointment in UKZN he teaches Agricultural Development, Farm Management & Accounting, Applied Farm Financial Management, Agribusiness Finance/Marketing and Production Economics/Price Analysis.

His areas of research interest are in Production Economics, Agricultural Finance/Management, Food Security and Rural Development. Dr. Baiyegunhi presently has 2 MSc and 1 PhD students under his tutelage. He has supervised many BSc honors students and has published research articles in both local and international journals. He has also referred articles for Agrekon and conference papers for AEASA. Dr Baiyegunhi is a member of the Agricultural Economics Association of South Africa (AEASA).
